Yummy Meatballs

Last night I made some yummy turkey meatballs and spaghetti for dinner. I found this recipe at http://www.recipezaar.com/135104, but tweaked it a bit to the following. In our home, we are trying really hard to eat more healthy and frequently substitute ground turkey for ground beef. We tried it with whole grain spaghetti noodles, but weren't too fond of the taste of the noodles. Serve with a green salad and some French bread to complete this meal.

Turkey Meatballs

Meatballs

1 lb. ground turkey
1/2 cup dry Italian-style bread crumbs
1/4 cup ground Parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon of Italian seasoning
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 egg, beaten

Sauce

2-26 oz. jars of your favorite pasta sauce
1-14.5 oz can of diced tomatoes, drained

Directions

  1. In large bowl, mix all dry ingredients.
  2. Add rest of ingredients and lightly mix, but mix well, with hands. Form into 20 meatballs*.
  3. Place them on lightly oiled** cookie sheet.
  4. Bake in 400ยบ over for 20-25 minutes.
  5. If they are still just a little pink inside, it's ok if they are to simmer in a sauce, otherwise bake until done.
  6. For sauce, combine ingredients into large saucepan on medium heat. Add meatballs if desired and simmer an extra 5-10 minutes.
*I used a tablespoon cookie scoop and found it was easier to form and it also guaranteed equal cooking time.
**I generously sprayed the cookie sheet with cooking spray.
